Due to the conservative attitude of people towards love affairs, India is a very hostile place for unmarried couples seeking for some good moments of togetherness. Most hotels are restricted to only married couples and families whereas some take advantages of their problem by placing hidden cameras. Haling all boundaries, StayUncle was emerged as a helpmate for them.
“Couples need a Room, not a Judgement,” the tagline written on the main page of StayUncle, a Delhi-based startup.
Established by Nandi Kumar Singh, Blaze Arizanov, and Sanchit Sethi, in 2014, the Delhi-based startup started as a common travel booking platform, but in September 2015, the platform was revamped as a business case around unmarried couples. Previously, it started with Delhi NCR and Mumbai, but, now, it lists safe and good rating hotels in Delhi NCR, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai for couples. There is an option for others cities but you have to just provide details as list of hotels is not available.
“There is no law in India that prohibits (unmarried) couples from renting a room. As long as you have a government identity card, you should be given a room. We don’t live in the 1950s anymore. What we are trying to do is change the mindset of hoteliers.” Said, Sanchit Sethi, founder of the startup.
The best part is you need not to pay for 24 hours, as with StayUncle you can opt for the 12 hours’ day time slot that ends at 7 pm. They have two slots, i.e. Morning slot (10.00 a.m. – 07 p.m.) and evening slot (09 p.m. to 08 a.m.). If you wish to book the room for 24 hours then you have to pay for two slots rather than paying for complete 24 hours.
The rooms are priced from INR 1500-5000.
The platform doesn’t promote the pre-marital sex, however, it’s only providing them the liberty of making a decision and assisting the society familiarize to various lifestyles. Moral policing must to stop and the step is already taken.
