Facebook Messenger Celebrates 1 billion Active Users

On 20 July 2016, Facebook celebrates its new achievement by getting 01 billion active monthly hits.

Facebook messenger is thanking its user, for making it a great hit. With its continued increase in monthly users, Facebook Messenger gives a strong competition to Whatsapp Messenger by achieving 01 billion monthly active users.

David Marcus, Facebook Vice-President, said

“As part of this journey to one billion, we focused on creating the best possible experiences in modern day communications,”

He further added,

“We remain focused on helping connect people to the people and businesses who matter most.”

Facebook has almost 1.6 billion active users worldwide, and other messaging application, WhatsApp acquired by Facebook for around $20 billion in 2014, also reckons more than one billion users monthly.

Instagram, another member of the Facebook ‘family’ counts more than 500 million users, who share images.

Marcus told Agence France-Presse (APF) that the key markets of Messenger include Australia, North America, Britain, the Philippines, France, Thailand, and many other European countries.

Facebook is further planning to build other services in Messenger such as ‘bots’ that deliver news or connect with businesses and retailers.

Marcus said that Facebook Messenger has around 23,000 developers & 18,000 active bots which they are planning to expand.

Messenger can help monetization because it keeps users in the Facebook ecosystem where they can be targeted with ads.

“We will see that happens in the coming months, but I think that once you have an ecosystem that starts working between businesses and so many users on Messenger, we’ll find more monetization vectors in the future,” Marcus said, adding, “But we aren’t at the stage where we are rushing to monetize.”

Each month, Messenger encounters 17 billion photos shares and 1 billion messages and everyday users share around 380 million stickers and 22 million GIFs. In addition, 10 percent of all VoIP calls go through Messenger.

WhatsApp does not accept advertising, but is finding new ways to enable businesses to connect with customers, so that they can grow their businesses.

As per the company’s details, Messenger is the 2nd most recommended application in iOS system of Apple.
